No new starts have been found since yesterday which brings the count to 105 new starts since last weekend's storms: Diamond Lake Ranger District - 55, Tiller Ranger District - 31, and North Umpqua Ranger District - 19. The Diamond Lake District, in order to manage the large amount of fires, has grouped the fires under the Toketee Complex. This means the complexity of the management has reached a more logistically challenging situation. Spotter planes, lookouts, and resources on the ground will be searching for new starts that may become active as temperatures increase. Fire managers will also be watching for increased fire behavior on a couple of the more challenging fires. The Lonesome Fire burning in the Rogue-Umpqua Divide is estimated at 500 acres in size. The new start count totals 101 since last week-end's lightning bust: Diamond Lake Ranger District - 52, Tiller Ranger District - 31, and North Umpqua Ranger District - 19. Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS) distributed around various locations on the Forest showed very little precipitation over the past 24 hrs. The largest amount of rain of .45 inches was measured at the Granddad RAWS located on the North Umpqua Ranger District. Some locations received .25 inches while others received none. In areas that did receive rain, the penetration through the canopy to the ground was minimal. Three new smokes, for a total of 97, were reported today which bring the subtotals of each Ranger District as follows: Diamond Lake - 50, Tiller - 31, and North Umpqua - 19. The cooler temperatures allowed firefighter to make significant progress today on several fires. 19 fires were considered contained today. Firefighters will go back to each location through-out the summer checking for any rekindling.
