The Gunbarrel Fire began when lightning struck in the North Absaroka Wilderness at 11:54 AM on July 26. The origin was approximately 40 miles west of the town of Cody in bug-killed trees with heavy dead and down timber.

| Significant Events | From 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain fell on the fire area September 10. The area closure was lifted effective today, September 11. There is still some heat in the Jim Creek, Trout Creek, and Robbers Roost drainages, so Forest visitors should be aware that hot spots are possible in these areas. Please be careful and report smoke to Cody Dispatch Center at 800.295.9954. |

| Planned Actions | The fire is being managed by Wapiti Ranger District fire personnel. Firefighters mopped up some hot spots in the Jim Creek area this week. The fire is being monitored daily and patrols will increase this weekend as drier and warmer weather returns. |
