A lightning storm passed through the northeastern portion of Santa Barbara County early Friday morning, igniting five fires within Los Padres National Forest. All of the fires were consolidated into one incident called the "Santa Lucia Lightning Complex." The fires are located generally southeast of the intersection of Highway 166 and Tepusquet Road, approximately 20 miles east of Santa Maria, CA.
The Buckhorn Complex consists of three fires in the Buckhorn Ridge area. These fires burned 177 acres and are contained.
The Owl Fire is in the vicinity of Salsipuedes Canyon in the San Rafael Wilderness. This fire was held at 18 acres and is contained.
The Manzanita Fire is located in the San Rafael Wilderness, southeast of the Owl Fire. This fire was held at 53 acres and is contained.
The emergency closure in the Santa Lucia Lightning Complex area will be lifted at 6:00a.m. on Friday, August 22. See closure map and description.
