The South Fire started on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 12:11 p.m and was initially a fast moving fire driven by winds and steep terrain. The fire quickly spread to more than 100 acres. During the first few hours of the fire, firefighters were able to diminish the rapid spread and partially contain the fire. Full containment was reached at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19.
