Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 was assigned on Monday, August 18th, to manage the Summit Springs Complex, that burned on state-protected private land and federal forestlands, 10 miles north of Sisters, OR. First reported on Sunday evening, August 17th, after a series of lightning storms moved through the Central Oregon area, the fires burned through a variety of timber types and grasslands.

The Summit Springs Complex consisted of three main fires: Summit Springs Fire (approximately 1747 acres), Stevens Canyon Fire (approximately 173 acres), and the Green Ridge Fire (approximately 80 acres), and numerous spot fires. Ownership was approximately 41 percent on federal lands and 59 percent on ODF-protected private lands.

The Incident Management Team was demobilized on Monday, August 25th, and control of the complex turned over to a local Type 3 Team of approximately 170 firefighters who focused their efforts on patroling fire lines, completing mop-up, and aiding in resource restoration activities.The Incident Management Team's Fire Information Office close and in coordination with the Type 3 Team, future information updates for this complex are available by the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center at 541-416-6800.

On Friday, August 29th, the Type 3 Team was demobilized, and the complex was returned to the local ODF district and U.S. Forest Service offices. The data on this incident reflects the final situation report issued on August 29, 2008, at 1200 hours. There will be no further updates on this complex posted to this site.
