Summary

Update Friday August 29, 2008:

After several days of precipitation, the Black Wildland Fire Use Fire, northeast of Flagstaff, rekindled and is continuing to make progress. It has now treated approximately 232 acres at the northwest base of Black Mountain - northeast of Sunset Crater, southwest of Strawberry Crater. Smoke is visible from East Flagstaff - especially in the Doney Park area.

In general, the Black Fire is slow and creeping, however, a few days without precipitation allows activity and intensity to increase.

After a few days of precipitaion, the Black Fire rekindled and continues to treat more of the landscape.

Fire Managers from the Peaks Ranger District are managing this fire for resource benefits and will continue to monitor and evaluate conditions daily.
