Final Update for the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex
The weather conditions from yesterdays Red Flag Warning were not experienced over the fire as expected. The preparation and planning of Fire Managers for the Red Flag Warning ensured continued progression toward containment of the fire. A cold front came in Friday night and continuing through the weekend bringing in a marine influence. This marine influence will may bring potential showers, higher relative humidity, and lower temperatures. This may occur on the west side of the fire along with NW winds and gusts up to 20 MPH. These weather conditions will help crews to get a step ahead of the fire.
The fire is predicted to have limited to no surface fire potential. Smoke is expected to increase due to the continued burning of heavy fuels. Fire behavior may change after the weekend, due to another weather change that will bring warmer temperatures, low humidity's, and stronger winds.
Air resources continue to monitor the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex for any hotspots and assist nearby fires when needed. Helicopters and ground crews were successful in retrieving hose, which was no longer needed, from part of the southern edge of the fire.
Firefighters have done an immense amount of repair and rehabilitation work along firelines and road systems. The crews have completed this work along the northeastern portion of the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex. The northeastern portion will is now being placed on a monitoring only status.
A hotspot was found and taken care of on the north portion of the Blue2 Fire. Additional hotspots were found on the Crescent City Fork of Blue Creek and were suppressed by water dropped by helicopters. The remainder of the fire has been placed in patrol and monitoring status.
Closures: To protect public safety and facilitate fire suppression efforts, closures of trails and roads are in effect for the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests. The Salmon River Road from Somes Bar eastward is open to the public.
